MARTHA-NDUMBE-PLATZ ARCHIVIEREN /ARCHIVING MARTHA NDUMBE PLATZ

Ein kollektives Archiv der Gegenwart /A collective archive of the present

    English Version below!

Martha Ndumbe Platz is a site of transformation: a place where memories, hopes, fears, and experience meet and, sometimes, clash. With this action we want to create a living archive of the square: we collect traces, impressions, and stories, and we ask how we experience this place today and how it could look tomorrow.

Join us on October 19th from 4 PM to 6:30 PM for an active, hands-on afternoon of exploring, sharing, and co-creating a living archive of our square at our central meeting station.

Throughout the afternoon, you can move through interactive stations across the square to capture sounds, photos, drawings, and personal memories.

Every story and trace gathered will unfold on our shared archive board. Whether you want to dive deep into the creative tasks or are just passing by, everyone is welcome.

You can stop by anytime to exchange a wish for a fortune cookie or scribble your everyday hopes directly onto the ground.

At the end of the afternoon, we will come together to explore our collective findings, reflect on our experiences, and discuss how we can shape the future of our neighbourhood.

This action is supported and funded by Kiezimpuls and funding from the Senate of Berlin.

Undisciplined knowledge: tools for reclaiming collectivity

For the Open Office Dialogues, we invited participants to an afternoon of shared conversation, reflection, creation, and dining. Drawing on our professional backgrounds and practical experience with participatory practices, we engaged in an open and transparent dialogue on three key themes: multidisciplinarity, multilingualism, and multisensory approaches.

We aim to move beyond academic and/or institutional frameworks and expand and adapt these concepts so that they better reflect the ambiguities inherent in participatory practices.

How can we multiply the possibilities of knowledge and the reclaiming of space in an urban context?
Can we imagine a way to reclaim space that truly eliminates barriers? What if we first had to rethink what barriers are and who erected them in the first place?
If we cannot abolish power relations, can we at least make them visible?

    Archiving the Present of Solidarity

On July 5, 2025, we hosted our first Kiezwerkstatt workshop at the Buttmann Straßenfest, gathering neighbors under the red umbrella to explore the meaning of Resistance in Wedding.

In a cozy, living-room atmosphere, participants shared memories, stories, and reflections on places of resistance across the neighborhood. These contributions were mapped collectively with stickers, notes, and words on a large neighborhood map, then transformed into zines, collages, and postcards in a hands-on creative session.

The result was a spontaneous pop-up exhibition: part archive, part conversation, wholly Kiez , and the starting point for a living archive of resistance in Wedding, built from neighbors’ stories of struggle, solidarity, and strength.
